How To Motivate Yourself To Get Fit

Finding motivation to get fit can be a huge struggle for most people, but once you push past the first stages of procrastination and laziness, it’s only up from there. I’m here to give you that little nudge to get you going, here’s how to motivate yourself to get fit.

Here’s another listicle for you guys, since my last few obviously weren’t enough.

1. Find Your Reason Why

Everyone has a reason for wanting to get fit or to have a healthy lifestyle. What’s yours? Making sure to know why you’re doing this, and why you want this, can help with setting your mindset. This way you’ll know what you want to work towards and won’t leave you wandering aimlessly.

2. Find Your Inspiration

Find out who inspires you. Look at their picture every day for inspiration, print it out if you have to. Set it as your phone’s wallpaper. Create a little motivation board. I found that looking at a picture of someone that inspires me reminds me of what I really want, and why I started. It really helps when you need motivation, especially for clean eating.

3. Picture Yourself

Imagine yourself the fittest you could ever be, imagine yourself being healthy. Picture yourself the way you’d like to be, and then get up and do something about it. I usually always do this, no matter how healthy or good I feel about myself. Always look to better yourself in whatever possible way.

4. Make Health Important

Like I said before, always try to better yourself and your health in any possible way. There are many ways to make health a priority, and getting fit is one of them. It’s never late to start, strive to be the best version of yourself.

5. Just Do It

I think this is my number one tip. If you’re struggling to get fit because you keep procrastinating, you don’t have the motivation, or you just don’t know how, then I say just get up and start working out. Just do it even if you don’t feel like it, because once you start everything else will fall right into place.

6. Set Small Goals

Set little, achievable goals and challenges for yourself. As little as doing 10 push-ups, 10 squats, not eating bread for a day, etc.. This way once you’ve accomplished these small tasks you’ll feel great about yourself, and you’ll boost your motivation as a bonus. Give yourself a challenge all while getting stronger and more fit.

7. Track Your Progress

Take pictures of yourself before you start, and during the whole process. You might not notice a change in your body since you see yourself every day, but looking back and comparing photographs, you’ll definitely see it. You could also keep a food journal, somewhere where you can log everything you eat, even if you slip up and eat something unhealthy.

8. Plan Ahead

Schedule and plan all your workouts in advance. Fit them into your calendar and allow yourself to think of it as a commitment that you back out of. It’s sort of like a meeting with yourself; bosses don’t cancel. Planning ahead also saves you the trouble of fixing a workout on the spot, and keeps away the “Oh well, maybe next time” attitude.

9. Create An Awesome Playlist

Find the most upbeat, uplifting, motivational tunes and put them into a playlist to bring to the gym or to your workouts. When you’re caught up in a song you like and know, you won’t notice time pass and your workout will be over before you know it.

10. Find A Workout Partner

Having a workout partner encourages you to get up and get moving and will force you to show up at the gym. Kind of like the planning ahead, only this time it’s an actual commitment to someone other than yourself. The two (or more) of you will feel accountable to one another and will be obliged to turn up. Besides, having a friend around can only make things fun.

11. Reward Yourself

Every now and then, reward yourself for your hard work, for your effort, and most importantly for trying. Buy yourself a new dress to slay in, a new pair of sweatpants, workout gear and attire, and maybe even a donut to stay sane. Enjoy the work you’ve put into caring for yourself, don’t make it feel like a job.

How To Live Your Best Life in 2018

Hi lovelies! So 2018 has finally rolled around, how are we all feeling about it? I’m honestly excited for this year, I can’t wait to see what new adventures it has in store. Every year, I see the “new year, new me” motto, but a few weeks into the new year almost everyone seems to have given up or to be having a bad/rough start to the year. This year though, that doesn’t have to be you or me. I’m going to tell you how to skip out on that rough start. It’s all about your mindsets, people, and the goals you set.

Here’s how to make 2018 your best year yet.

1. Reflect on 2017

The first thing you should be doing is reflecting on your year. Self-reflection or year-end reflection is very very important if you want to enter 2018 on the right foot. Think about where you were on January 1st of 2017, and really accept everything that has happened throughout the year – both the good and the bad. It’s only once you’ve come to terms with 2017 that you can enter the new year with a clear mind.

2. Invest in Your Body and Skin

This will be the year you get on track with your skin and body and put your needs first. With everyday stress, it’s so common that we let go of taking care of ourselves, but it’s time to fix that.

3. Prioritize Sleep

I cannot stress this enough, make sleep a priority. Yes, most of us have very busy schedules, but find any way to prioritize sleep to make sure you get no less than 7 hours at the minimum. Whether you have to incorporate naps into your schedule, sleep earlier, or wake up later, make it happen.

4. Focus on Hydration

If you’ve heard that water is the key to almost everything, believe it. Proper hydration can result in so many wondrous things happening for your body, skin, and health – you wouldn’t want to miss out on that.

5. Set Realistic Goals + Resolutions

With everyone setting new year’s resolutions, it’s not uncommon for most of us to get ahead of ourselves by setting unrealistic goals. It’s something I do very often myself. This year set proper goals for yourself, and keep them private. A study shows that people are more likely to achieve their goals if kept private, and I can back this one up.

6. Set A Priority List

While you have your list of goals, it’s even more important to have a priority list in order to stay grounded, and have an idea of what’s more important, while working towards said goals. Don’t lose sight of what you have right now in the process of chasing what’s still far away.

7. Find Healthy Alternatives to Cravings

Now, as a fitness junkie, I’m telling you guys – this will change your life. For some people it might not be easy in the beginning, but your body, skin, and mind will thank you later on. Also, your cravings might just indicate that you’re more dehydrated than you are hungry.

8. Workout

If you don’t already, you should start now. Working out holds a tonne of health benefits, and this too will lead you to the path to living your best life. Try it for at least 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week, for 30 days and see the difference.

9. Unplug Often

Unplug everyday for at least an hour. Spend some time alone or with those you love, and even though it’s the slightest difference, it’ll change your life for the better.

10. Practice Mindfulness + Meditate

Practice mindfulness wherever you are, whatever time of day it is. And what better way to de-stress after a long day than to meditate Meditating calms you internally, and if done before sleeping, you’ll have the best sleep ever. Trust me on that one.

11. Be Positive and Quit Complaining

No matter how positive you are or try to be, complaining ruins everything. Again, trust me on this. Both go hand in hand, positivity and no complaining. Yes, sometimes it can be really really hard to stay positive, but you have to try. Stop worrying about things, “What worries you masters you”.

12. Set A ‘De-Stressing’ Routine

Figure out your best way to de-stress, make a plan and stick to it.

13. Journal

Try journaling once every day. Writing out your thoughts, goals, feelings, or whatever else can help eliminate stress and can actually have positive benefits.

14. Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

Don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone and try new things. It’s the only way you’ll learn new things and make this a memory-filled year.

15. Practice Single Tasking

All of us are prone to multitasking and taking too much on our heads, and it just leads to us being stressed and overwhelmed. Why do that to ourselves? It’s a very unhealthy habit that has to be cut out at one point. Practice single-tasking, and write everything down in a to-do list, so it’s easier to handle one task at a time.

The overall idea is to focus on personal development, focus on growing and bettering yourself as a person. By implementing these habits into your everyday life, you’ll soon be on your way to having your best year yet.

Self Reflection | 2017

Hi friends! So the year has come to an end already (how?!) and what better way to end the year than with a good old dose of self-reflection? I believe it’s very very important to reflect on one’s self at least once a year, and since it’s the year-end, it’s better now than ever. Reflection for some people can be harder than it is for others, but everyone should try it in order to come to terms with 2017 and to start the new year off on the right foot. So today I’m going to share with you my self-reflection process? or whatever it is. I encourage you guys to do so as well. These are questions that I’ve gathered from multiple sources, Pinterest included. Also, this isn’t something I would normally do publically, so please respect that. Enjoy!

Reflecting on 2017

1. My biggest fitness accomplishment was:

maintaining my clean eating habits for the most part throughout the year, and increasing the amount I can lift.

2. My biggest blogging accomplishment was:

going self-hosted & revamping my blog!

3. These are the skills I acquired this year:

  • I improved my French
  • I learned advanced coding
  • improved my photography
  • learned the art of meditation
  • learned how to create animated objects using a software
  • I learned how to apply henna

4. This year, I learned the following about myself:

I learned that I’m very strong, both mentally and physically. Way more than I thought I was. My heightened ability during training never ceases to amaze me.

5. Here’s something I learned about other people:

6. My biggest regret of the year was:

not properly focusing on academics

7. Someone I really enjoyed spending time with this year was:

My close friends and family.

Meditation

Happiness. Alhumdulillah.

Salmon. Yup, I’ve never had salmon before until about two weeks ago.

Istanbul! And maybe Dubai but I’m not sure if it was this year or the last.

25. How have I developed or changed as a person?

I’ve learned that life is too short to hate things or to hide inside my comfort zone, so I’ve tried new things that I normally wouldn’t have done before. I believe I’m also a little less mean than I was before.

26. What have I done differently this year? What new people have I met or new experiences have I had?

I’ve stopped holding grudges. I’ve practiced self-care and reflection as much as possible. I’ve changed my perspective on certain things and I’ve tried not to judge people. Met quite a few lovely people, both inside and outside the blogosphere, and have had so many new experiences from visiting new places to working with different bloggers – and companies. (well, almost)

27. How much fun have I had this year? Was I fulfilled?

I’ve had loads and loaaaaads of fun this year, it’s been so amazing. Definitely fulfilled.

28. Who has helped me, been influential or impacted my life this year?

There are so many people, but mainly I would say my mother, my family, and my closest friends.

29. What am I really proud of?

Being prepared for the next year (blogging wise), learning how important self-care is, and not giving up.

30. Is everything I have done this year in alignment with my big dream or goal?

I can’t say yes to everything, but mostly yeah. There are definitely some things I wish I had done differently, but what’s done is done.

Where I’ve Been | Back on the Blogging Train

Hey you guys. How has everyone been? Yes, I’ve been very MIA for last three and a half months I believe, and I apologize for that. I’ve been so busy with school and everything else that there has been absolutely no time for my blog. School has stressed me out to the max. But since winter break has just begun, I thought what better time to hop back onto the blogging train than now? Oh, how I’ve missed writing. I’ve missed my blog. Whenever I’m not blogging, it feels like I’m neglecting a child. Weird, but that’s how it is.

So what’s new outside the blogosphere?

Over these past three and half-ish months, I’ve completed 3 sets of academic exams, joined my school’s media team, gotten back on track with my training, and gone self-hosted!! That’s right you guys, I finally did it. I made the big move. This is a really big step in my blogging journey, and it makes me so happy. I will talk in detail about going self-hosted in another blog post. Also, I finally got my nose pierced (mentally squealing oMG)! I’ve wanted to get it done for over a year, and honestly, it was waaaaay less painful than I had anticipated.

In other news, I had been nominated for 3 (or 4?) award tags back in August/September, and one of them not just once but thrice! I have yet to complete these tags, I’ll pop the links to them somewhere in this post once they’re up. I’m so honored to be given recognition by other bloggers, our blogging community is so wonderful and I love being a part of it.

Also, guess who’s traveling agaiiin? Yup, this girl is going on another adventure, which means more blog posts and more photographs! I feel like everything from now on is going to be one giant adventure, and even though I’m obviously excited, I’m also a little overwhelmed. Especially with academics at the back of my mind.

What I Wore: Eid Al Adha 2017

Hi lovelies x

Eid is now over and let me tell you, it was amazing.  You guys don’t understand how excited I get over Eid, it’s the best thing. Especially when you’re spending quality time with the family, because what’s better than that right? Here is an outfit post showing my outfits for the first two days only as I didn’t take any pictures on day three.

Day 1

On day one I wore the best abaya type thingy to the mosque for Eid prayer but I have no good picture of it. This picture is what I had on afterward when our whole family came together at our grandparents’ place. I was reaaaally feelin’ Dina Tokio kinda vibes in this picture.

Day 2

On the second day, I made sure to take my camera with me when I went out and it was the best decision ever, because I ended up getting a bunch of amazing photographs out of it.

Day 3

On day three, I couldn’t care less about what I wore or how I looked. I didn’t take any pictures on this day because we were having too much fun and I didn’t really feel like being on my phone. We had gone over to my grandparents’ and all we did was watch movies all day and tell ghost stories and basically just spend time together as a family.

A Quick Update

Hello again.

So since I’ve been away for quite a while, I thought it would be nice of me to give you guys a little update on things. Firstly, Eid Mubarak to those of you celebrating! Secondly, if you follow me on social media, I had mentioned that I wouldn’t be posting very often for at least a month or so due to upcoming exams. These exams are honestly super important and so I need to put more time aside for studying. Once that’s over and done with, I’ll put more time into blogging and I will be posting more consistently. Now, because I’m going to be busy for a while, I’ve already written a couple of posts that just need to be scheduled, so you guys will still be getting content at least once or twice a week. How does that sound? If I do have any extra time on my hands, I will 100% be writing more posts to add to the growing list. 

In other news, I’m really hating the heat; wishing winter would come sooner. Speaking of winter, I have a few autumnal/wintery blog posts coming too, so keep an eye out. I suddenly have this huge burst of inspiration for posts out of nowhere and it sucks because I’ve hardly had any time to write lately. The one time I don’t have writer’s block just has to be when I’m super busy, how convenient. It’s currently 1:10 am and it’s only around now that I find time for writing. This will be a scheduled post for tomorrow though since it’s obviously quite late to publish it right now. I have plans for this blog you guys, just wait and see. I hope y’all truly like my content when it comes. I personally think it’s going to be amazing. Or at least I’m hoping. Also, I’ll be changing up the theme a little whenever I get the time – not really feeling this current one at all. Anyways, I guess that’s all I have to say for now.

Different.

Writing for a purpose can sometimes be the hardest thing; if I’m forced to write, the result would be a fully blank sheet of paper. But if I write just for the sake of holding a pen, I could get like ten billion words out. Is it just me or do other people feel that way?

Also, I feel like my previous blog posts have been the most random things ever and they’re mostly about writing, but eh. That’s what my blog is about after all – it’s what I think and how I feel. It’s a part of me. It even says right there on the top that this blog is a teeny tiny glance into my mind. A mind that never stops learning and exploring, a very very curious mind at that.

Write.

Sometimes writing can be a struggle. At least that’s what I tell myself when I can’t think of anything, but that is completely false. I mean look at how easily I’m writing right now. It might seem to me like I’ve got nothing to write about, or that my mind is completely empty, but in reality, it’s all just psychological. Once I put my pen down on paper and just start writing, there’s no stopping me. It’s the best feeling honestly, just writing out my thoughts and the first things that come to mind, nonstop.
